Level 3
Canine First Aider

Strengthen your professional profile and reassure owners with the IICBT Level 3 Certificate in Canine First Aid, a practical qualification designed for people who work with dogs and need to respond calmly and safely when something goes wrong.
This Level 3 canine first aid course focuses on recognising early warning signs, understanding what you can and cannot do as a first aider, and supporting the dog and owner appropriately while veterinary care is arranged. It is suitable for dog walkers, trainers, groomers, day care and boarding staff, rescue workers and committed owners who want more than a basic attendance video.
By the end of the course you will be confident checking vital signs, responding to common emergencies, recording incidents clearly and explaining to clients how you keep welfare and safety at the centre of your work.
MODULES INCLUDED
You will study four clear modules that take you from general dog care knowledge to acting as a calm, competent canine first aider until a vet takes over:

- Emergency response and life support (CPR, choking, collapse, heatstroke)
- Wounds, incidents and post incident reporting

The UK’s #1 training provider for canine behaviour and training
With long standing expertise in developing high quality canine professionals, we understand what it takes to succeed in a competitive, fast growing field. We train dog trainers and behaviour practitioners who are more employable, better prepared for real cases, confident with clients, and committed to ethical, evidence based practice.
If you are new to the industry, our Level 5 Diploma in Canine Training and Instruction is the place to begin. It is recognised as a clear benchmark for those entering professional practice and gives you the skills to train dogs safely, design structured training plans and work effectively with owners.
If you are an experienced trainer aiming to move into complex behaviour work, our Level 6 Diploma in Canine Behaviour Practice builds on that foundation. You will develop advanced skills in behavioural assessment, case formulation, risk management and working closely with veterinary teams.
You can also strengthen your profile with focused short courses in areas such as puppy training, first aid and nutrition. These programmes help you deepen knowledge, refine your practice and stay current with sector expectations.
Step 1. Download The Prospectus
Start by downloading the Level 3 Certificate in Canine First Aid prospectus. You will see what is covered, how the course runs online and how first aid fits alongside your existing work in walking, training, day care, grooming or rescue. You can make sure this is the right safety qualification for you before you commit.
Step 2. Talk to an IICBT Adviser
Next, you speak with an adviser who understands how first aid supports your current or planned services. They will look at what you do now, your risk level, any requirements from insurers or councils and how quickly you need the certificate. You discuss fast track or steady route, agree a study plan, explore payment options and, if it fits, link first aid into your broader training or walking plans.
Step 3. Get Enrolled and set Up in Your Portal
If you decide to go ahead, your adviser completes enrolment with you and walks you through your first aid course area. You see where to find lessons, demonstration videos, downloadable notes and assessment tasks, and how to get help from a tutor if any scenarios are unclear. You come away knowing exactly how to get started and how long you want to take.
Step 4. Study, Complete Assessment, Get Qualified
You then work through the course around your existing work and life. Most learners complete the Level 3 Canine First Aid course in around 1 to 2 weeks. You watch practical lessons, complete short knowledge checks and a final scenario based assignment, then receive your IICBT Level 3 Certificate in Canine First Aid and Canine First Aider title.
Step 5. Start or Grow Your Business With Our Support
Once qualified, you can show owners, employers, councils and insurers that you take safety seriously. You build first aid into your policies, staff training and marketing, and use your new title and digital badge to strengthen your profile. This makes it easier to win and keep clients, stand out in job applications and connect first aid with wider IICBT training or behaviour pathways.
WHY SERIOUS DOG PROFESSIONALS CHOOSE IICBT
Independent, outcomes-led standards for canine training and behaviour, designed to prepare you for real work with dogs and owners.
Fast Track Routes
Move quickly if you’re ready, or pace your study around work and family. We show you exactly how to get qualified, not just “work through the content”.
Practical Workshops
Train in person at places owners recognise, including The Kennel Club at Stoneleigh and partner centres across the UK, not just in a village hall.
Unlimited tutor Access
Ask questions as often as you need. You get direct access to practising trainers and behaviour specialists, not a ticket system and stock replies.
Study From Anywhere
Log in, watch lessons, download templates and keep going. All core teaching lives online so you can build your new career from your sofa, not a classroom.
Support to Build a Business
We talk pricing, services, marketing and client handling, so you leave with a plan to earn from your skills, not just a certificate for the wall.
Training People Trust
Your courses are backed by an independent institute and recognised through the iPET Network PDR scheme, giving you something credible to show vets, employers and clients.
First aid on its own is not a full time career, but it can make a big difference to what you earn from walking, training, day care, boarding or rescue work. When owners compare services, the business with clear first aid training, written procedures and a recognised certificate is usually the one they trust with their dog.
For professionals, IICBT Canine First Aider status can be the detail that helps you win better clients, secure higher value contracts and stand out in job applications. It becomes easier to justify premium rates, work with more safety conscious owners, and meet the expectations of councils, insurers, vets and partner organisations, so your diary fills faster and your existing services become more profitable.

Fees and Payment Options
When you speak with an adviser, they will talk you through course fees, any current offers and the payment plan that fits your budget. Most learners start with a £199 deposit and a simple monthly schedule.
Spread the cost of your course over simple monthly instalments, with 0% interest on our in-house plans.

What if I am just a committed owner and not a dog professional yet?
You are still welcome. The Level 3 First Aid course is written in clear, practical language so serious owners can understand what to look for and how to act while they get to the vet. If you later decide to walk dogs, work in day care or train professionally, you will already have a recognised first aid qualification in place.
Do I have to work in dogs full time for this to be useful?
No. First aid matters whether you are a part time walker, volunteer in rescue, run classes at weekends or just want to be better prepared with your own dogs. You can fit the course around any schedule and then use the knowledge and templates in whatever way makes sense for your role.
How long will it take me to start using this in my work or daily life?
For most people the impact is immediate. As you move through the modules you will start to notice early warning signs, review your walks or set up and put together better first aid kits. You do not have to wait until the final assignment to benefit. On your call, your adviser can help you think about how to apply what you learn in your specific setting.
I have done a basic pet first aid day before. How is this different?
Many first aid days are built to hand out attendance certificates as quickly as possible. The Level 3 Certificate is a structured qualification focused specifically on dogs, with clear limits on what a first aider should and should not do. It gives you scenarios, checklists and incident records you can actually use, rather than just a day of demonstrations that you forget a week later.
What if I am squeamish or worried about getting things wrong?
The course is designed to make you feel more confident, not more anxious. You will learn what is safe to do, what must be left to a vet, and how to keep yourself out of danger. The aim is not to turn you into a medic, but to help you recognise problems early, support the dog calmly and communicate clearly so the vet can take over.
What happens once I qualify?
You can present yourself as an IICBT Canine First Aider with a Level 3 first aid qualification for dogs. That strengthens your profile with owners, employers, councils and insurers, especially if you combine it with walking, training or day care work. You will also have incident templates and checklists you can build straight into your policies and staff training.
Do you offer payment plans, or do I have to pay everything upfront?
On your call, your adviser will explain the course fee and any payment options available. The Level 3 course is deliberately kept accessible, and where appropriate a payment plan can be arranged so you do not have to delay improving your safety standards.
Why should I choose IICBT for first aid instead of a basic pet first aid course?
Plenty of first aid courses are built to fill a room for a few hours and hand out attendance certificates. IICBT’s Level 3 Canine First Aid is designed around real dog businesses, where owners, councils and insurers will question how you work if something goes wrong. You get clear limits, practical templates and realistic scenarios, so you can talk confidently about safety and incident response instead of just saying you “did a first aid day once”.
