Become a Dog Trainer From £1499

Build a complete professional pathway with the IICBT Dog Trainer Package, a structured route designed for people who want to work seriously with pet dogs and their owners. This package combines core training, walking, puppy, first aid and nutrition qualifications so that you can offer safer, higher-value services and present a clear, credible profile to clients, vets and referral partners.

By the end of the package you will be confident planning and delivering pet dog training, running puppy and life skills classes, providing structured walking services, responding appropriately to incidents and advising owners on day-to-day nutrition within an appropriate scope of practice.

WHAT IS INCLUDED

The Dog Trainer Package brings together five complementary IICBT qualifications:

  1. Level 5 Diploma in Canine Training & Instruction
  2. Level 4 Certificate in Professional Dog Walking
  3. Level 3 Certificate in Puppy Training and Early Development
  4. Level 3 Certificate in Canine First Aid
  5. Level 3 Certificate in Canine Nutrition

Together they cover:

  • Professional practice, welfare and scope of work
  • Core pet dog training skills for one-to-one work and classes
  • Structured, welfare-led dog walking and route planning
  • Puppy development, socialisation and early problem prevention
  • Canine first aid, incident response and safety procedures
  • Practical, day-to-day nutrition knowledge you can apply with owners
TYPICAL STUDY ROUTE AND COURSE LENGTH

Most learners work through the Dog Trainer Package in stages, for example:

  • Start with the Level 5 Diploma in Canine Training & Instruction as your main professional training qualification
  • Add the Level 4 Professional Dog Walking course to structure and formalise your walking services
  • Complete the Puppy Training, Canine First Aid and Canine Nutrition certificates to strengthen your offer and profile

As a guide, many learners complete the core Level 5 Diploma within 8 to 12 weeks alongside other commitments, and then add the Level 4 and Level 3 courses over the following months. You have up to 12 months of access for each course, giving you flexibility to plan your route.

As part of the Level 5 Diploma within this package, you can choose how to complete your final practical assessment: either through a structured video-based assessment completed in your own environment, or by attending a two-day practical workshop and assessment at The Kennel Club, Stoneleigh. The Kennel Club option gives you the chance to train and be assessed in a nationally recognised canine venue, alongside experienced IICBT tutors and other committed trainers.

You will qualify with all five IICBT awards listed above, including the right to use titles such as IICBT Master Dog Trainer (IICBT MDT) in line with IICBT brand guidelines where applicable, plus recognition through the iPET Network Professional Development Recognition (PDR) scheme for the relevant qualifications.

STUDY OPTIONS AND SUPPORT

The Dog Trainer Package is designed so you can build your new career alongside existing work and family life.

  • All core teaching is delivered online through structured video lessons, case examples and short knowledge checks
  • You access every course, template and assessment through a single student portal
  • You can fast track in focused blocks or move at a steadier pace across the year

Throughout your studies you have access to experienced IICBT tutors for questions on content, assessment and professional practice, plus a student helpdesk for technical support.

CAREER SUPPORT AND BUSINESS RESOURCES

This package is built to help you turn skills into a sustainable canine business, not just collect certificates.

During the courses you will:

  • Use ready-made templates for one-to-one training programmes, group classes, walking services and behaviour-friendly policies
  • Practise explaining your services, prices, boundaries and methods in clear, client-friendly language
  • Build incident, first aid and safety procedures that reassure owners, vets, insurers and partner organisations
  • Develop a service list that can include training, puppy packages, walk-and-train, structured walking, nutrition support and more

You also gain access to wider IICBT resources and progression routes, including behaviour-focused study at Level 6 if you decide to add behaviour work to your training business in the future.

The Kennel Club Experience

For learners who want in-person coaching as well as online study, the Level 5 Diploma includes the option of a two-day practical workshop and assessment at The Kennel Club, Stoneleigh.

Across the two days you will:

Work in small groups with experienced IICBT trainers and real dogs
Practise teaching core pet dog exercises, handling skills and owner coaching
Receive live feedback on your training, communication and professional presentation
Complete your final practical assessment in a nationally recognised canine venue

The Kennel Club route is ideal if you want extra support with your practical skills, enjoy learning face to face, and value the added credibility of saying you have been assessed at The Kennel Club.

If you are new to the industry, our Level 5 Diploma in Canine Training and Instruction is the place to begin. It is recognised as a clear benchmark for those entering professional practice and gives you the skills to train dogs safely, design structured training plans and work effectively with owners.

If you are an experienced trainer aiming to move into complex behaviour work, our Level 6 Diploma in Canine Behaviour Practice builds on that foundation. You will develop advanced skills in behavioural assessment, case formulation, risk management and working closely with veterinary teams.

You can also strengthen your profile with focused short courses in areas such as puppy training, first aid and nutrition. These programmes help you deepen knowledge, refine your practice and stay current with sector expectations.

How to become a Professional with IICBT
Becoming a high earning, in demand dog trainer is easier when your whole route is mapped out for you. These five steps show you how the Dog Trainer Package takes you from “thinking about it” to running a serious training business.
Speak to an Adviser

Step 1. Download The Prospectus

Start by downloading the IICBT Dog Trainer Package prospectus. You will see exactly what is included, how the Level 5, Level 4 and Level 3 courses fit together and the types of services, income and lifestyles this pathway can lead to. No payment, no commitment, just a clear view of what is possible.

Step 2. Talk to an IICBT Adviser

Next, you speak with an adviser who works every day with people starting or growing dog training careers. They will look at where you are now, what you want your training business to look like, what is holding you back and how quickly you want to move. Together you agree the right order for your courses, discuss fast track or steady options, explore payment plans and, if it fits, shape a Dog Trainer Package that matches your goals and budget.

Step 3. Get Enrolled and set Up in Your Portal

If you decide to go ahead, your adviser completes enrolment with you and walks you through your full pathway inside the student portal. You will see where to find your Level 5 Master Dog Trainer course, your walking, puppy, first aid and nutrition content, how to get tutor help when you need it and how to track your progress across the whole package. You log off knowing exactly what to start with in week one.

Step 4. Study, Complete Assessment, Get Qualified

You then work through the package in clear stages. Most learners complete the Level 5 Diploma first, then add the walking, puppy, first aid and nutrition courses around their growing client work. At each step you pass focused assessments and gain new qualifications, building from strong training foundations to a wider, safer and more valuable set of services. By the end you hold multiple IICBT awards, including your Master Dog Trainer title.

Step 5. Start or Grow Your Business With Our Support

Once qualified, you are not just “good with dogs”, you are a recognised professional with a serious skill set. You can offer structured one to one training, classes, walk and train, puppy programmes and practical nutrition advice, with clear prices and policies that justify higher fees. You then keep using IICBT templates, mentorship and progression routes to fill your diary, raise your rates and build a training business that gives you real control over your time and income.

Independent, outcomes-led standards for canine training and behaviour, designed to prepare you for real work with dogs and owners.

Reason 1.

Fast Track Routes

reason 4.

Study From Anywhere

Log in, watch lessons, download templates and keep going. All core teaching lives online so you can build your new career from your sofa, not a classroom.

How much could I earn as a Dog Trainer?

The Dog Trainer Package is built to move you out of odd jobs with dogs and into a serious, multi income stream training business. Instead of just selling the odd one off session, you can position yourself as the local go to for early stage puppy support, life skills, walk and train and day to day welfare advice, with Level 5 training, walking, puppy, first aid and nutrition behind you.

In practice that means stacking several solid income streams on top of each other. For example, if you were running just ten dogs on a structured one to one programme at an average of £300 each, that is £3,000 of work booked in. Add a weekly puppy course at £120 per puppy with eight pups, a handful of premium walk and train clients and some simple nutrition and first aid add ons, and you are quickly nudging well past £1,000 per week before you even look at online options or small group programmes.

Once you have a good local reputation, clear packages and the confidence to charge in line with your skills, it is realistic to work towards £40,000 to £80,000 per year or more from a blended training business that includes one to one work, classes, walk and train, puppy packages and practical nutrition advice. The Dog Trainer Package is designed to get you into that bracket faster by giving you multiple qualifications, clear titles and business ready resources so you can justify higher fees and attract better clients from day one.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I am starting from scratch and want the full trainer pathway, not just one course?

That is exactly what the Dog Trainer Package is for. Instead of guessing which qualifications to stack, you get a joined up route through training, walking, puppy work, first aid and nutrition. You can move from complete beginner to a rounded professional with multiple services to offer, rather than collecting random certificates that do not fit together.

Do I have to quit my job to complete the full package?

No. Most learners fit the Dog Trainer Package around existing work and family life, starting with the Level 5 Diploma and then adding the Level 4 and Level 3 courses in stages. Your adviser will help you plan a realistic route so you build skills and income over time rather than trying to do everything at once.

How long will it take me to start earning as a trainer from this package?

You do not have to wait until every course is complete. Many learners start charging for basic training or walking services while they are part way through the Level 5 Diploma, then add puppy work, first aid and nutrition as they qualify in each area. On your call, your adviser will talk through where you are now, your time frame and when it makes sense to introduce each paid service.

I have done one or two dog courses before. Why would I need a package?

Individual courses can move you forward, but they often leave gaps, especially around business, safety and scope. The Dog Trainer Package is built as a coherent pathway so your skills, titles and services match. It is designed to turn you into a professional that owners, vets and insurers understand and trust, not someone who has “done a bit of everything” with no clear offer.

What if I get overwhelmed trying to juggle multiple courses?

You are not expected to work on everything at once. The package comes with a recommended order and timeline, and you can get support if you are unsure what to focus on next. The idea is to build a layered skill set that leads to real income, not to drown you in content.

What happens once I complete the Dog Trainer Package?

You can present yourself as an IICBT Master Dog Trainer with additional walking, puppy, first aid and nutrition credentials. That gives you a strong professional profile and a wide range of services, from one to one training and classes through to walk and train, puppy programmes and welfare focused advice. It also sets you up perfectly if you later choose to progress into behaviour work at Level 6.

Do you offer payment plans for the full package, or do I have to pay everything upfront?

You do not need to pay for the entire package in one hit. On your call, your adviser will explain the package fee, any current offers and the payment options available. The goal is to align cost, study time and when you expect to start earning, so the package pays back rather than becoming a strain.

I have seen other academies and bundles. Why should I choose the IICBT Dog Trainer Package?

Many bundles are just a stack of unrelated courses with a discount sticker on top. The IICBT Dog Trainer Package is a joined up pathway built by practising trainers and behaviour practitioners, from first foundations through to higher value services. Every piece is designed to feed into real offers you can sell, with consistent standards, titles and resources, so you come out as a complete professional that owners and vets recognise, not just someone who has tried “a bit of everything”.
